Nestled in the heart of Chicago’s historic Printers Row, Forno Mauri stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of authentic culinary craftsmanship. Located at 620 S Dearborn St, this establishment has become a familiar landmark for those who appreciate the intersection of traditional techniques and the vibrant, modern energy of the city. Stepping into the space, guests are immediately greeted by an atmosphere that balances rustic charm with the sophisticated urban character synonymous with the South Loop neighborhood. It is a place where the focus remains steadfastly on the quality of ingredients and the deliberate, patient process of preparation, offering a sanctuary for diners looking to slow down and savor the experience of a well-crafted meal.
The philosophy behind Forno Mauri is rooted in the belief that great food does not require unnecessary complexity. Instead, the kitchen prioritizes the integrity of raw components, allowing the natural flavors to shine through in every dish served. Whether you are a local resident seeking a reliable neighborhood staple or a visitor exploring the architectural wonders of Chicago, the restaurant provides a welcoming environment that feels both intimate and expansive. The design of the space encourages conversation and connection, making it an ideal setting for everything from quiet weekday lunches to celebratory weekend gatherings with friends and family.
What Defines the Forno Mauri Experience
Commitment to Traditional Methods: At the core of the kitchen’s operations is a deep respect for time-honored culinary practices. By emphasizing manual techniques and careful attention to detail, the culinary team ensures that every item leaving the kitchen reflects a dedication to excellence and consistency that is often lost in faster-paced dining environments.
A Prime Location in Printers Row: Situated at 620 S Dearborn St, the restaurant is perfectly positioned within one of Chicago’s most architecturally significant districts. This location allows guests to immerse themselves in the rich history of the area, characterized by its iconic loft buildings and cobblestone-adjacent streets, providing a unique backdrop that enhances the overall dining experience.
Focus on Seasonal Integrity: The menu is curated with a keen eye on the natural cycles of produce. By sourcing ingredients that are at their peak, the kitchen is able to create dishes that feel fresh, vibrant, and deeply connected to the time of year, ensuring that each visit offers a slightly different perspective on the restaurant’s core culinary identity.
An Inviting and Accessible Atmosphere: Forno Mauri prides itself on being a space where everyone feels welcome. The interior design avoids pretension, opting instead for a warm, approachable aesthetic that invites diners to relax and enjoy their surroundings. This commitment to hospitality ensures that the focus remains on the joy of eating and the comfort of good company.
Beyond the individual elements of the menu and the physical space, what truly distinguishes Forno Mauri is the sense of community it fosters. In a city as large and diverse as Chicago, finding a space that feels like a genuine extension of the neighborhood is a rare find. The staff works diligently to maintain a standard of service that is attentive yet unobtrusive, allowing guests to dictate the pace of their own experience. This thoughtful approach to hospitality is what keeps patrons returning, as they know they can expect a consistent level of care and quality with every visit.
As the culinary landscape of Chicago continues to evolve, Forno Mauri remains anchored by its commitment to simplicity and quality. It serves as a reminder that the most memorable dining experiences are often those that prioritize the fundamentals: excellent ingredients, a welcoming environment, and a genuine passion for the craft. Whether you are stopping by for a quick bite or settling in for a longer meal, the restaurant invites you to experience a slice of Chicago life that is as authentic as it is satisfying. We look forward to welcoming you to our table on Dearborn Street, where every meal is prepared with the intention of creating a lasting impression.

I would not recommend this restaurant for takeout. Not only are you not able to order online or over the phone, this pizza simply did not travel well at all. The cheese and toppings didn’t stay on the dough and it was a bit of a mess to … More

Wow! This place was phenomenal. Alex was a wonderful server on top of the wonderful food. My boyfriend and I tried the cocktails: Long Island Iced Tea, Espresso Martini, and an Italian Moscow! Of course though the pizza was to die for! So light and airy with deep flavors. Tiramisu was also worth a taste.

Forno Mauri!
Wow! What a great little treat right on Printers Row. This spot boasts all Italian sourcing for their products, from the flour to the tomatoes to the cheese and beyond.
We tried the meat and cheese combo, the lasagna, a cheese pie with extra cheese and a specialty pie. The crust was crispy, the cheese goey, and the topings were savory. The Lasagna takes a minute but if you like pasta give it a try. We will be back!

This was the most perfectly balanced pizza I have ever eaten. The sauce is the most excellent tomato flavor. The cheese! The crust! Dominic was the kindest server! Tiramisu was also complete perfection. You can taste the attention to detail in every single bite, and not feel like death after eating. What a meal!!!!

The most transcendent pizza crust in Chicago has just arrived at Printers Row! But the trick: you have to eat it immediately from the oven! Dine in, get a bottle of wine, the tricolore salad, maybe an appetizer, and you’ll be set. (Also: … More

We had a group of 7 and our server was so attentive, answering all of our questions and all the recommendations were on point. He was very helpful with a nut allergy. The pizza was delicious as well as the lasagna. The lemon sorbet was just the right amount of sweet and tart. We will definitely be back. More
